Bet some of these will surprise you...
Gorgeous little babies arrive in the world eagerly anticipated by parents who love them and think them the most beautiful creatures ever to be born. But even the most love-blinded parents can't help noticing their little bundle has a few unexpected attributes.
#1 They are furry little creatures
A fine covering of body hair, even on the backs of the ears, called lanugo tends to show up on the back, shoulders, forehead and ears. It's very common and soon disappears after birth. When my first was born he was especially hairy and the thought of a throwback to Neanderthal man did strike me.
#2 Cross-eyed
The appearance of cross-eyes or even the eyes going in totally different directions is something that's special to new-born’s and will rectify itself within the first few months so don’t be alarmed.
#3 Big boobies (on babies!)
It affects 30-40% of babies - both girls and boys - and in a few cases these baby breasts actually produce milk! Thankfully a short-lived effect of hormones.
#4 Large genitals
Common for both boys and girls but particularly boys. Some arrive looking as if they have swollen testicles but again don't worry there's every chance it will settle down within the first few days.
#5 Snorting, groaning, farting, sneezing
This is the one time in anyone’s life when people will find these noises utterly cute! This is all part of the clearing-out process after the birth as their tiny nasal passages have gotten blocked up with mucus. If they are sneezing a lot it could also be a reaction to bright lights, so bear that in mind.
So there you go - a baby who is hairy, cross-eyed, with big boobies and breaks wind is perfectly normal. Enjoy every second of it x
