Ireland's first luxury, sustainable breastfeeding clothing brand has launched, and we've got the lowdown on everything you need to know.
We all know how difficult it can be to shop sustainably these days, especially when it comes to looking trendy. With fast fashion shops everywhere in sight, sometimes we might just find ourselves giving in to the ease of picking up a t-shirt or a pair of socks and later regretting our choice when they end up looking faded and worn after just a couple of washes. However, we now have a brand new Irish website where we can head to, which is specially catered for breastfeeding mums: Feed Me Mother.
Set up by Limerick-born but Dublin-living Fiona Fahy, she decided to set up Ireland’s first sustainable breastfeeding clothing brand after feeling utterly dejected after the birth of her first baby in 2017. While rummaging through the maternity sections of various high street shops and not finding many options, she took on the mammoth task of creating her own dedicated brand.
Fiona said of shopping on the high street: "I felt like I was dressing up as someone else and totally disconnected from my personal style. And don’t get me started on all the hidden holes, zips, and flaps.
"I just knew there had to be a solution to both these problems. I wanted a breastfeeding wardrobe that reflected my own style and personality, that was comfortable but gave me the confidence to feed freely, anywhere I wanted. And I knew I couldn’t be alone in feeling this way."
Fiona's overall vision is to help empower breastfeeding mothers to look and feel stylish and comfortable, while also being kind to the environment; it sounds like a winner to us.
One of the most important things to know about Feed Me Mother is that all of the t-shirts are made in Ireland. The luxurious, sustainable, everyday Tencel t-shirt allows mums to feed freely and easily, and they come equipped with deep side slits built-in. This means that after you're done feeding, you can just pull up and go. Simple!
If you weren't aware, Tencel fibres are extracted from the wood pulp of trees that are grown and replaced on sustainably managed forests, meaning they are also biodegradable and compostable. The resulting flexible fibre is renowned for its exceptional softness.
The website has a range of t-shirts, socks, baseball caps, shopping bags and accessory pins available to buy. Be sure to avail of the 15% discount which is on offer all this week for Green Friday.
A final bit of hilarious information about the website - the name. Fiona says "Feed Me Mother" came from the words her now 2.5-year-old daughter used to shout when she needed a feed. So, listen to your little ones, they might provide you with endless inspiration someday.
