If you’re not yet a parent, you might be somewhat dumbfounded as to what the newborn bubble is. To clarify, it’s nothing to do with either the mother or baby blowing bubbles of any kind…
It’s the period of time after you give birth when the only thing in the world that you care about is your precious little bundle. Anything outside of your "newborn bubble" holds zero interest and you conserve every ounce of your energy for looking after your little one.
So, now we’ve solved that riddle, the next question is how to enjoy it. Here are some tips to make the most of it.
Keep Out
Family and friends will all be super excited to meet your bundle of joy, however, there’s no rush. Feel free to say no if people ask to drop around and let them know that they’ll be welcome to call in a few days or weeks. It’s more important to look after yourself and your baby than to look after well-meaning relatives. When you’ve barely got the energy to make yourself a cup of tea, you don’t want to find yourself having to make tea for guests! However, when you do decide you’re ready to invite people round, make sure you accept offers of help – you’ll regret it if you don’t!
Lower Your Expectations
Pre-baby you probably used to spend hours preparing your house for visitors; post-baby you shouldn’t be lifting a finger. No one will expect you to have a sparkling home, in fact they’d be gobsmacked if you did. Fortunately, they’ll be so enamoured with the baby they won’t even notice if the house is a mess so your efforts would be wasted anyway!
Time Of Your Life
Be prepared for the fact that your whole concept of time will go out the window while in your newborn bubble. Day and night will blur together (making it pointless getting out of your PJs) and your new routine will consist solely of feeding and sleeping. Forget trying to do everything you used to do pre-baby (at least at first) and embrace this slower way of doing things. Taking it easy is important right now!
Keep Your Advice To Yourself
Sometimes you might appreciate advice if there’s something you’re unsure about, however, on other occasions it might be unwelcome. It’s important to trust your own instincts, remember you know your own baby better than anyone and if something’s working for you and your little one then that’s the best way to do it. Mum knows best!
