Although we’ve officially sprung into 2022, spring won’t be along for another couple of months. However, there’s nothing to stop us from brightening up our homes now. After all, everything always looks so drab once the sparkly decorations are taken down.
Here are some ideas to brighten your home and make it feel as fresh as a daisy this new year.
Get Colour-Inspired
First off, while you may be feeling down, the Pantone Colour of the Year 2022 will leave you feeling uplifted. Their chosen colour 'Very Peri' is a "vibrant shade of periwinkle blue with energizing violet-red undertones". It’s a colour that Pantone says "encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression". So, what’s stopping you, by adding splashes of the shade to your home, you’ll leave your family feeling motivated to take on everything that 2022 throws at them, and that includes periwinkle cushions… There’s no harm in making sure their pillow fights are pretty!
Bring The Outdoors In
Your garden plants won’t be in bloom for a while yet, and it’s still a bit nippy to sit outside anyway, so bring the outdoors in and enjoy being surrounded by greenery in your home. If you want to keep things low-maintenance then choose fake plants that will require nothing more from you than a dust once in a while. Faux greenery used to be on the small side but one scroll through your Google results will reveal tall fig plants, large palms in pots and artificial trailing plants that will spill all the way down your kitchen cupboards – well that’s one spill that won’t need cleaning up!
Go Battery-Powered
New lighting is an obvious way to make your home brighter and the good news is that now it’s easier than ever to shine some extra light into your sitting room. Cordless, battery-powered lamps are a useful and stylish accessory and because they don’t have a cord you can move them around whenever you want; they’re also more child-friendly which is a major plus. Choose from spotlights, versions which sit on the floor or models shaped like lanterns and squeeze in some time to read a few pages of your favourite book without straining your eyes.
Get Creative With Toys
After Christmas, new storage for all the toys from Santa is high on our wish list. Instead of going for bland baskets, brighten your home by letting the kids choose a new brightly coloured toy box or simply switch out the dull, fabric containers on your storage unit for new ones in their favourite colours. With a little bit of luck, the more interesting and inspiring their toy corner is, the more time they’ll spend actually playing with (and putting away) their new toys.
