Decorating your home for Christmas is one of the most wonderful things to do but it can be stressful.
Decorating your home for Christmas is one of the most wonderful things to do but it can be stressful, especially once the kids get involved! You may have an idea of what way you want to do things, but kids will have quite another idea altogether.
Here is everything you need to know about decorating your home for Christmas.
Think of your budget – A good idea is to buy decorations for your home in the January sales as you pick up some great bargains, but this is not possible right now. In most houses, it takes years for families to build up their Christmas decorations so don’t feel like you need to get everything in one year. Stick to your budget and promise to build on the decorations every year and create your Christmas dream home in a few years. It will be delightful watching your decorations grow over the years.
Create a warm home – Create a beautiful and warm home with loads of candles and the smell of Christmas spirit with potpourri too! The smell of baking and cooking usually fills the houses on Christmas Day but it may not be possible to have that all the time. Pop some Christmas inspired cushions on your sofa and invest in fluffy throws for the sofa too. Lighting is key too as while candles are a great investment consider some battery-operated LED lights for safety and splash them along the bannister or anywhere else you would like them.
Make a certain room the heart of Christmas – In most homes this would be the living area, but some homes choose the kitchen to be the heart of the home as everyone spends more time there. Regardless of what room you choose, ensure it is well lit, warm and cosy with lots of Christmas inspiration thrown in for good measure. Use a mixture of tinsel, ornaments and flowers to bring the area to life fully.
Don’t forget the front door and hall – It is great to have a beautiful Christmas front door with a stunning wreath and it starts with your hall so ensure it is welcoming and homely. Nothing says Christmas instantly to guests than a wonderful lit up Christmas front door and hall. Your garden can be another focal point and while it takes a good bit of effort you should try and create the Christmas theme outside too.
Make stuff with the kids – Yes, it may get messy, but kids have great imaginations and are delighted to make things to hang around the home. So, get creative with some cardboard and paint as well as stickers and glitter! Who doesn’t love glitter at Christmas? Also, getting everyone involved will give you time to have fun and laugh.
Get the tree up – The Christmas tree is quite simply the pinnacle of Christmas and it means a huge amount when you get it up and begin to dress it. It can be any colour you like as there are so many options now and there are hours of fun in designing your dream tree!
Have a great time decorating your home!
