Some like it hot! Personally, I’m more of an autumn/winter fan (one of the reasons being you don’t need a fan). However, I do lust after the gorgeous homeware that appears in the shops come June.
Warm temperatures are a great excuse to store away the heavy blankets, fluffy cushions and deep-pile rugs and put out some lightweight summer throws, linen cushions and natural jute rugs. If you’re looking to update your interior this summer, here are some ways you can make your home look as beautiful inside as it does outside.
Longing For Linen
While linen cushions are a household staple, there are many other items that are well suited to the fabric. Curtains, tablecloths, napkins and duvet covers also look stunning in this natural, breathable material. Linen is also strong and durable and has temperature regulating properties – what’s not to love! Choose neutral shades and your home will look light, bright and bang on-trend.
Summery Storage Solutions
If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s the fact that storage solutions are our saviour. After spending the day surrounded by toys, it’s a relief to be able to put everything away in the evening and stretch out on the sofa; especially when you’re sweltering in the heat. Thankfully, plastic boxes are no longer the only option to keep toys hidden away. You can pick from cotton, seagrass, jute or rattan baskets and your sitting room will be oozing major beach vibes.
Tropical Tableware
Whether you’re dining indoors or outdoors, leave it to your tableware to make you feel like you’re on vacation. Keep the kids hydrated with a gorgeous, glass water dispenser and while you’re at it pick up some pretty tumblers that are practical as well as stylish. Green dishware will look natural and tasteful and scalloped plates will give your table a classic feel. And don’t forget a fancy wine cooler to whip out once the kids are tucked up.
Pastel
Summer interior is the perfect time of year to indulge your love for everything pastel. Be inspired by your favourite flavour of ice cream; strawberry wins for me every time but the rest of my family loves mint, raspberry and lemon. Towels, bedding and bathmats all look sickly sweet in soft pinks, yellows and greens. And if your sweet tooth knows no bounds and you have the budget, treat yourself (and the kids) to an ice cream maker. Ben and Jerry eat your heart out!
