Another chocolate-filled weekend is upon us! As we all hunker down for basketfuls of treats over the coming days, we're going to need something to watch while munching on our selection of Easter eggs.
And so, allow us to bring you the best selection of Easter movies you and your family should watch this weekend after you've all gone Easter egg hunting.
Rise of the Guardians (Netflix)
On a list of the best Easter movies, there has to be a rabbit appearance somewhere along the way. You and your family might have watched Rise of the Guardians typically around Christmas time, but we'll be watching it this weekend to pay homage to the scene-stealing E. Aster Bunnymund, who is voiced by the one and only Hugh Jackman.
Dolittle (Sky Cinema & NOW)
Everyone loves a talking animal, right? The ever-delightful Robert Downey Jr. takes over the mantle of Doctor John Dolittle in this re-telling of the classic tale of a man who can talk with animals. The movie might fare better with younger kids, as the humour and storyline might be a little thin on the ground for the adults of the house.
101 Dalmations (Disney+)
The original 1961 animation movie is just waiting to be watched this weekend. And after you've watched the cute adventure, there's also the two fantastic Glenn Close live-action movies too, so why not make a marathon of it? Plus, it'll be a nice recap of the movies in anticipation of the new Emma Stone prequel, Cruella, which will arrive on Disney+ in May.
The LEGO Batman Movie (Amazon Prime)
In all honestly, we don't think we'll ever tire of The LEGO Batman Movie. It still tickles us that the superhero often depicted in movies as a moody, gloomy caped crusader can be hilarious in all sorts of comical ways. Unfortunately, the planned sequel movie has been canned, so get watching this on repeat for your Easter movies weekend.
Hook (Netflix)
The story of Peter Pan has been adapted so many times over the years that we've lost count! However, Hook is still a firm favourite. The swashbuckling adventure movie stars Robin Williams as Peter Pan, Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, and a dastardly Distin Hoffman as the titular character, and has stood the test of time all of these 30 years later.
Shrek & Shrek 2 (Amazon Prime)
Another Easter movies marathon if you're up for it is one of our favourite animation franchises. With a big green ogre and his merry friend donkey front and centre, they encounter all sorts of characters from fairy tale stories. The far superior Shrek and Shrek 2 are available to watch on Amazon Prime, with sequels Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After available on Netflix.
The Witches (Sky Cinema & NOW)
And finally, the newest release on our Easter movies list is The Witches, a retelling of the classic novel by Roald Dahl. While it might not live up to the 1990 movie, it's still a rather fun version starring some of the best Hollywood talent with Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Chris Rock, and Stanley Tucci. Perfect if you're looking for a mildly scary children's tale.
