This is without a doubt a system every parent should use to keep their children alert and safe from a young age.
A 10-year-old girl from Arizona is safe and well having used a simple stranger danger trick that her parents thought her to ask if a stranger ever tries to pick her up.
The young girl was walking home after school with her friend in Phoenix when a man pulled up next to them in a white SUV. The white male reportedly told them that her brothers had been involved in a serious accident and he was sent by her parents to pick her up.
The man believed to be in his 40's told her she had to get in the car.
However, unbeknownst to the man, the tween had a prearranged code word with her parents in case someone else needs to pick her up and asked him for the word - and it just may have saved her life.
The unfamiliar man did not know the secret word and he drove away.
Talking with ABC 15, the girls' mum Brenda James said she had just introduced the "code word" a few months previous having read about it online.
"This one time, it saved my daughter's life," she said.
In a statement, local Sheriff Mark Lamb said: "Kudos to the parents of this child for having a code word and talking ... to their children about stranger danger."
"We hope by putting this out, it will encourage parents to have that conversation and create a plan with their children, so they know what to do if they are in that situation."
The suspect has not been found.
