The Cape Clear Storytelling Festival is back with an extensive programme of events.
The Cape Clear Storytelling Festival is back for its 24th year with an extensive programme of events due to take place on Cape Clear Island from Friday, August 30th to Sunday, September 1st.
Celebrating one of the world’s oldest art forms, the much-loved storytelling festival presents some of the most accomplished storytellers from around the world at carefully chosen venues on different parts of Cape Clear Island using the stunning backdrop of Ireland’s southernmost inhabited island as scenery.
At various locations across the Island, festival events include story swap sessions, storytelling boat trips, workshops, live music, walking tours and set-dancing for both kids and adults alike.
With acts such as Diarmuid O Drisceoil, Colum Sands, Ruth Kirkpatrick, Kamini Ramachandran and Bill Harley announced to perform later this year its no wonder the Cape Clear Storytelling Festival is fast becoming one of the most renowned festivals in the world storytelling calendar.
Situated just eight miles off the coast of Baltimore in West Cork, the adventure begins with a ferry sailing to the island taking approximately 45 minutes. A highlight to the much anticipated weekend especially for the smaller ones. Ferry sailing will take place throughout the day during the festival weekend.
Expected to be the busiest time of the year for the West Cork Island, booking accommodation in advance is highly recommended, or make it an adventure of all sorts and camp at Chleire Haven Campsite. Centrally located, close to shops and festival venues the campsite offer limited furnished yurts and bell tents available for as little as €165 per night for up to 6 people.
If you plan on taking part in the most ancient of art forms to a world audience at Cape Clear this year make sure to bring strong footwear and reliable waterproofs. It should also be noted the festival isn't exactly wheelchair friendly with lots of steep hills and steps into venues, however, it does not mean it is impossible, but you will need to bring your own assistance.
Tickets have limited availability, arriving early to avoid disappointment is highly advised. Weekend adult tickets are available from the Festival Office at €75 per person while individual events are mostly priced at €5 for under 12's over the course of the weekend.
