Everyone has a favourite month of the year; that may be December because of everything Christmas, the month you were born because of the cake and presents, or it could be February if you love love.
I’m going to make the case for September being the best month of the year (especially if you’re a mum).
1: Back-To-School
Three words every parent looks forward to hearing (not "I love you", although they come a close second) but BACK TO SCHOOL! It’s ironic because of course we look forward to the summer holidays too, it’s just that two months is a long time to keep kids occupied. There’s only so much entertaining you can do without spontaneously combusting, so when the schools reopen it’s a relief to be able to take off your "mum hat" for a few hours a day.
2: The September Issue
Even if you’re not an avid reader of fashion magazines, if you’re interested in fashion in general then you’ll know that September is the month that autumn/winter clothes arrive in full force into the shops. If you love boots, coats and cosy knits then you’re in luck because you’ll see them everywhere. And when you’re a mum you get to kit out your kids in gorgeous outfits too. No judgement here if you’re obsessed with matching outfits, I’m guilty too.
3: Stunning Scenery
If you’re a family that lives for long walks, then September is one of the loveliest months to enjoy a stroll. The temperature is crisp but mild, the scenery is stunning, and the leaves are starting to turn and fall. Family photographs will also look extra special with the pretty backdrop of autumn so it’s a great month to snap some yourself or hire a professional photographer to capture you all.
4: Autumn TV
After all that fresh air, I think we deserve a little screen time don’t you? Autumn is the best time of year for great TV and this September we’re in for a treat. After the little ones are sleeping safe and sound, we can sit back with a cuppa and enjoy sensational new series’ including 'House of the Dragon' (a 'Game of Thrones' prequel), 'The Rings of Power' (a 'Lord of the Rings' prequel) or 'Andor' (a new Star Wars TV series). Talk about being spoilt for choice!
5: Spooky Season Is On The Way
And if I still haven’t convinced you, the fact that Spooky season is on the way might just win you over. Yes, it’s time to raid the attic for all your Halloween bits and bobs, to try and stop yourself from buying any more ornamental pumpkins and to start lighting your fall candles. Everything’s about to turn orange!
