Sometimes no matter what you do, they just don't listen - here's our tips.

If you are a parent, chances are you have realised how bold kids can be at times and you have also probably realised it is head wrecking too!
There is no magical solution unfortunately, but there are some tricks and tips we can give you to get the kids to behave better and we have listed them here for your convenience.
  • Be consistent - If anything children need to know where they stand so if they get away with something once they may consider it ok to do it again. Don’t confuse the issue by being inconsistent and if your child misbehaves or does something wrong let them know it is unacceptable no matter where you are. You may not want to cause a scene, but your child knows how to press your buttons and will act up knowing full well your can not respond appropriately.
  • Be firm - Being firm is important but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your child either. Just ensure that when the moment comes that you listen to your child but also be firm with them.
  • Don’t break promises - Kids hate when parents do this or when they use a promise to get their kid to behave. Your child will soon learn that they aren’t going to be going to the playground like you said when he was screaming in aisle four. This doesn’t help, don’t use promises to get your child to behave unless you are going to follow through.
  • Follow rules and be a good role model - Rules are there for a reason and if you are the type of person who breaks them your child will naturally follow suit. You may use the disabled toilet though it isn’t for you and this shows your child a disregard for others. Be a good role model or at least as much as you can be when your kiddie is around.
  • Use behaviour charts - They can be useful in encouraging good behaviour and children will love using stickers or getting stars for good behaviour. They can earn up further points by doing their chores or eating their dinner allowing them a treat at the end of the week.
  • Create a good environment at home - If you want a child to behave the home should be safe, fun and ideal for them to roam around. You can’t give out to a child that knocked over a vase as the vase is not suitable to be in a position near a toddler. That’s not to say kids shouldn’t learn to respect other people’s property but within reason.
  • Count to 10 - When your child does misbehave take a few seconds and avoid shouting or screaming. Remain calm and count to ten if you must before sorting out the problem.
  • Talk to your child - Talk to your child and explain to them about good behaviour and what you expect from them. Listen too as maybe there is a reason for some bad behaviours. Take time to work on a middle ground and soon it will get easier. Promise!
