As you woke up this morning there was probably a blanket of frost, sleet or snow lying in the distance and with a yellow weather warning in place from Met Éireann.
Many of us woke up this morning to a blanket of frost, sleet and/or snow lying in the distance. And with a yellow weather warning in place from Met Éireann until Saturday, we've decided to change our weekly events guide up a little.
If you are fortunate enough to get a few inches of snow here are some think outside the box activities to do with the kids.
Paint the snow
Get creative out in the cold and brighten up the garden using some food colouring. Gather up some old spray bottles, scoops and even a turkey baster if you have one to hand. Mix the various food colourings with some water and let the kids go wild.
Make a sledge
Back when I was a nipper, the best thing about snow days was gliding down the biggest hill in the estate with a manmade sledge. Some days we used lids off our wheelie bin, cardboard boxes flattened out and on one occasion we used lids off the Christmas decoration boxes. Those were the days. Get your thinking cap on and make your own this year too. If you are anyway handy you could whip something up with leftover wood or just raid the house until you find something suitable. Stuck looking for a pully? Use the washing line! It can always be replaced.

Make a bird feeder
The ISPCC is advising pet owners to keep animals safe during the cold spell but they are also asking members of the public to look after vulnerable wildlife during the mini snow storm. So why not repurpose a plastic bottle to make a little bird feeder? You can add seeds, grains and oats to keep our little flying friends happy.

Build an igloo
Each year the snow sticks there is a new craze and the Beast From The East brought us igloos. Believe it or not, they are really easy to make once you prepare the base. Using a square basket of some sort or plastic bin mould some blocks together. Once we have 50 or more snow blocks you can begin to stack them into place building upwards and inwards until you eventually seal off the roof. What you do inside is totally up to you!

Of course, snow angels are obligatory as is building a snowman with a traditional carrot nose but if you any other ideas or fun things to do if we the snow continues to fall be sure to let us know in the comments.
