Although it may seem trivial to apply a coin-sized amount of cream each night before bed, if you stick with it, the results can be life-changing!
We all know cardinal skincare sin number one is not removing your make-up before bed. But, did you know that not applying a night cream is a very close second?
The benefits of applying a night cream are endless. Although it may seem trivial to apply a coin-sized amount of cream each night before bed, if you stick with it, the results can be life-changing!
For the most part, there’s no magic in the night that warrants using a special cream but some anti-ageing ingredients, like retinol, are inactivated by the sun, so it makes good sense to wear them while you sleep.
Some night oils are very oily on the skin, another reason it is best to apply at night and have it soaked in by morning. For a night crema to really work it must contain active ingredients in a sufficient concentration. Ingredients must also penetrate the skin and stay there long enough to have an effect.
Retinol is arguably the most highly regarded ingredient available on the market without a prescription. It’s the only thing that treats wrinkles you already have.
Benefits of night cream:
- Night cream supplies moisture to the dry parts of your face. Keeping your face super hydrated.
- It soothes your face.
- It also ensures that your skin has an even complexion along with having a finer skin texture.
- Night creams boost collagen production in your skin.
- The cream also helps in better blood circulation.
- The wrinkles and other lines on your face get reduced.
- One major role that night cream plays is that it prevents your skin from sagging.
- It makes your skin soft and supple.
- It helps your skin to restore its elasticity.
- Night cream helps in the renewal of the cells.
- Always remember most importantly is SPF. The most expensive night cream in the world will have little effect if you are not wearing SPF during the day too.
Which type of night cream will suit your skin?
If your skin is oily/combination, apply a normalising oil. Lavender is a great ingredient to help to control excessive sebum synthesis, while the soothing fragrance is incredibly therapeutic.
If your skin is congested/acne-prone, try something lightweight and detoxifying. Retinol oil helps to regulate and battle breakouts as it soothes and strengthens stressed-out and reactive skin types.
For those prone to dullness, try something rich in brightening AHAs. a potent antioxidant – phytic acid (to detox) and lactic acid – a component of skin’s NMFs (natural moisturising factors). There is a synergy between these acids, so it’s beneficial to combine them. This will exfoliate gently, brighten pigmentation and boost cell turnover to restore misplaced radiance.
Dehydrated? Try something packed with glycerin or hyaluronic acid to optimise moisture-retention and recover skin's plumpness. Hyaluronic acid is amazing to attract and retain much-needed water, with additional 'plumping' benefits.
