You should always know some basics about interior design trends, especially if you are the type of person who is constantly updating your home in certain parts.
We do know that trends come and go so a lot of people ignore them.
However, if you really love a trend there is no harm in implementing it into your home and making the most of it!
This year these are the trends proving popular:
Sustainability – The world has woken up to its wrongs of the past and materials are being produced by using recycled items and making the products more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Natural materials are being made to create bedding and textiles that are comfortable and decorative. More and more brands are offering sustainable products and it may take time for you to swap over items (to more sustainable ones) but everyone should start now!
Mixing it up – Patterns are big this year as well as mixing and matching styles for different combinations. You can be totally minimalist in areas and use pops of pattern to liven up areas in your home. Of course, it depends on what you want to achieve but if you are aiming for a strong statement nothing says it like a patterned rug or pops of cushions in vibrant designs on the plain/soft coloured sofa. This adds your own stamp on a room and perfectly replicates your vision of calm with bright or vibrant influences. Don’t forget logo designs either as slogans are dominating and are perfect for those who have something to say! You’ll find cushions, and candles with slogans or puns too!
Colours – This year there is a huge amount of mustard around and it is a warm shade that can be strong and bold depending on how you use it. If you don’t like mustard, then don’t use it as there is no point investing in a colour you dislike and there are other options including the calmer yellow. Beige, grey and Mediterranean colours are big this year too.
Ceramics, velvet and plants – Who doesn’t love a ceramic vase or jug? Well, you are going to be seeing more of them especially as we head into summer. There are loads of colours to choose from too and adding them into your kitchen or dining area is one way to add class and individuality to the area. Velvet is a firm favourite in the interior design world, and it is glamorous with a luxurious feel. Invest in some cushions with the beautiful velvet finish and you won’t be sorry! Indoor plants and floral designs are as popular as ever and they make a room look fresh and friendly.
Shelving and storage – You would be forgiven for thinking that one needs to put their ‘bits and bobs’ away but now it is all about open shelving and leaving things on show. Now we don’t mean you open your crappy cupboard (that holds everything from lost keys to old DVDs on show) and consider it to be stylish! The reality is, less is more and open shelving only works once items are neat, tidy and clean.
Now you have plenty to work with and have fun designing your rooms!
