Ali D's video has paid tribute to such an important part of maternity care in Ireland.
Ali D's Instagram bio lists "keeping motherhood real" as one of her focuses for her social media account. It's a perfect description for this mum of four. She absolutely lives up to this and it is the very reason we love following her. Ali D is a breath of fresh air for so many different reasons.
In the blink of an eye, Ali went from a mother of one to a mother of four. From parenting one girl to parenting three baby boys at the same time. She's a triplet mum and the odds of her conceiving triplets naturally were about one in eight thousand.
In the midst of caring for her three gorgeous children, Ali D wanted to give back. She created an event aimed at inspiring and empowering the parents of Ireland. The Perfect Way To Parent Incorrectly was a sell-out and we can totally see why. It united parents, care-givers and inspirational speakers from all walks of life. One attendee said that
"It was one of those events where one minute you're wetting yourself laughing and the next you are crying and hugging the stranger beside you"
The event showcased talks and stories from a huge number of Irish influencers such as Jen Hatton, Aisling Hamill and Jennifer Carroll. There were stories of love, loss and everything in between. It touched on miscarriage, surrogacy, well-being, food and so much more. An inclusive way to celebrate and highlight the highs and lows of parenting. The best part? ALL proceeds went to the Maternity Hospitals in Ireland.
As a special thank you to The Coombe, The Rotunda And The National Maternity Hospital, Ali D put together a beautiful video to showcase the magical care and support that so many parents receive when their babies are in NICU in any of Ireland's maternity hospital. The video features poignant photographs sent in from her followers as well as photos from friends, family and of course Ali's triplet baby boys. The video is stunning and completely stopped us in our tracks.
The video shows us a number of chilling and beautiful moments that will resonate strongly with a parent who has experienced NICU. Premature babies in incubators, parents holding their tiny babies for the first time and so many important milestones. The video also highlights that not every NICU experience has a happy ending as we are told that the video is dedicated to the memory of Mason Doonan Martin who passed away in the National Maternity Hospital.
Speaking about the video, Ali said
"To every NICU mam who shared their pictures with me for this little video, thank you so much for allowing me to share your stories. The work done in the NICU in these hospitals is so incredibly selfless and the people who work there are nothing short of living angels. Thank you for making sure my children are here today."
Ali's video has paid tribute to such an important part of maternity care in Ireland and although I've never experienced NICU Ali's video has given me a true appreciation for the work of NICU staff in helping these tiny beautiful superheroes that were born prematurely.
