Authors have started to perform live story readings for children. With the simple click of a button you can hear a familiar or new story through their voices.
During this time of global pandemic families are sourcing comfort in the familiar. Simple everyday activities such as story time are helping us escape the soaring levels of anxiety due to these uncertain times. Reading a book together as a family is the ultimate escapism. It allows us to leave our own thoughts to one side and enter the magical world of make-believe with our children.
In recent days a number of celebrities and authors have started to perform live story readings for children. With the simple click of a button you can hear a familiar or new story through their voices. It has lead to great excitement in the parenting community with many families using these live readings as a positive check-point throughout the day or in the evening time.
Here are some of our favourite live story readings by celebrities and authors
Dolly Parton
It is safe to say that she is not working nine to five at the moment. Dolly is using some of her time to entertain families across the world. In a brand new segment as part of her "Imagination Library" the country music star will be reading a live story every Thursday evening. In the first video Dolly read one her favourite books "The Little Engine That Could". The stories are live-streamed on her Facebook page at 7pm and we cannot wait to tune in.
Benji Bennett
We are big fans of the Adam's Cloud series of books by author and father Benji Bennett. Through his books Bennett wants to bring families closer together and highlight the importance of friendship and kindness. The books are dedicated to the memory of Bennett's beautiful son Adam who died tragically and unexpectedly in 2007 at four years of age.
The books are exciting, beautifully illustrated and full of important messages for families. Adam's Cloud fans were delighted to see the announcement of Benji Bennett's live book readings across his social media platforms. In the interactive reading experience Bennett shared photographs and messages from Adam's Cloud fans as well as a live and colourful reading of the much loved Adam's Pirate Treasure book. The live readings take place on the Adam's Cloud Facebook and Instagram pages at 7.30pm on Thursdays. You can read more about it here.
David Walliams
Following the huge success of his children's books David Walliams has released a daily free audio story for thirty days. In this series called "Elevenses" parents and children can tune in to a story every morning at 11am. The actor and author has currently written 23 children's books which are full of humour. If your child enjoys the books we recommend watching the movie version of "Gangsta Granny" which is currently streaming on Netflix. You can listen to the daily series here.
