Over the weekend a screenshot belonging to a Slimming World consultant appeared on social media claiming Muller Light yogurts were no longer syn free.
The post later shared on Twitter reads: "a 175g pot of Mullerlight (sic) will be 1 syn".
Panic has spread amongst many Slimming World members on social media following the news and some of the reactions are hilarious.
One member who is not happy about the news wrote: "Over my dead body will I syn a Muller light! They're only tolerable anyway defo not worth a syn and I've still managed to lose 3 and a half stone eating about 6 a day sorry #slimmingworld I think you're playing a dangerous game here."
Another wrote: "Amazing reactions to #mullerlights being 1 syn on #slimmingworld I remember a lady at group that was losing slowly until we found out it was because she was having 5/6 Mullers a day! They obvs have cals and adding syn value reminds you can't live on yogs."
We also found this on Twitter and to be honest, I agree: "If you want a yogurt, eat a bloody yoghurt. Life’s too short to be moaning over something so ridiculous!"
The popular yoghurts come in a variety of flavours and since they were syn free many dieters could eat them without having to worry about subtracting numbers from their daily allowance of up to 15 Syns.
Muller Light yogurts will not be the only food products increasing in syn value going forward. Joining them will be instant mashed potato and tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce such as spaghetti hoops.
A Slimming World spokesperson announced: "Our nutrition team routinely review our Food Optimising eating plan to ensure it’s up to date, in line with the latest guidance, and to take into account feedback from our 5,000 Consultants and 900,000 Slimming World members."
"As part of this process, we’ve been looking at how to give our vegan members more choice, and we’re delighted that a number of vegan foods, including canned jackfruit and plain and unsmoked seitan, can now be enjoyed freely by slimmers following our plan."
"In addition, a number of products – fat-free flavoured yoghurts, tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce and instant mashed potato – that were previously Free on our plan, meaning they could be eaten without weighing, counting or measuring, will now have a small Syn value (all food and drink that isn’t Free has a Syn value and members enjoy between five and 15 Syns daily)."
"This is because some of these foods are often eaten in large amounts, as a ‘snack’ rather than being enjoyed as part of a meal, or because they’re less satisfying than alternatives, such as mashed potato made with fresh potatoes."
"As the new Syn values are still so low, Slimming World members can easily still include them within their daily choices, if that's what they choose to do, and fat-free natural yogurts, dried pasta and potatoes will continue to be Free."
