Life can get so busy and hectic that people often forget the little things that they should be doing each and every day. Things to make the day or the week that little bit brighter.
We all have those days, those weeks even, when you don’t complete your to-do-list, the house is chaotic and you’re feeling utterly overwhelmed.
We brush it off and remember it was just a difficult week. But stress happens. Stress is always going to be a factor in our lives in some shape or form.
Life can get so busy and hectic that people often forget the little things that they should be doing each and every day. Things to make the day or the week that little bit brighter.
Here are six things that people should take the time to do every day.
Smile
It is easy to get upset by the little things in life. Most of the things that upset us now will not matter a month or even a week from now. If we waste time being upset and not finding happiness in life, then we will never be happy. Try and find one thing each morning to smile about. Nothing is too small! Life is too short to not be happy and grateful each and every day.
Be kind to a stranger
Many people tend to only focus on their friends and the people that matter to them in their own lives. It is common for people to forget strangers and the people that we are not close to. However, strangers are sometimes the most important people in the lives of others. You never know what battles people are fighting and you never know the impact you may have on a stranger. Simple gestures go a long way, and by doing something to impact a stranger's life to make it better could impact your own life as well.
Call someone you love
In a world of social media, most of our interactions with people are through an app or a text message. Nothing can compare to hearing the voice of somebody you care about though. Even a five minute phone call can have the power to boost your mood for the entire day, and even the reciprocate!
Get up half an hour before anyone else
This trick is my own go-to for making sure I feel like I have started my day right and feel on top of things from the word go. By setting my alarm for half an hour before the rest of the family get up, I can make sure I not only get a head start on our day by having things like breakfast and lunchboxes ready before the kids get up, but that I also have a few minutes every morning where it is just me and the silence. My alone time in the morning is sacred. I love to have my coffee and just mentally prepare for the day ahead. If it is going to be a particularly stressful day I try to focus on my breathing.
Get your endorphins pumping
The hardest part is actually deciding you’re going to do it, but once you've got started, you'll be so glad you did something to keep your body active. And the beauty is that it doesn't have to be complicated – do any kind of exercise you like. Go for a run, catch a yoga class, take a brisk walk, play football with the kids, anything as long as you get your pulse up and break a sweat. The endorphins will make you feel happier and better about your entire life in an instant.
Prep the night before
There is nothing that stresses me out more than leaving everything until the morning to get done. It takes 30 minutes max to get stuff ready the night before. Lunches, clothes and school bags for each one of my children and myself all get prepped the night before in our house. It really helps for a less stressed morning.
