Hay fever suffers are praising Vaseline for easing their symptoms.
It is that time of year again. Are you or your children plagued with the frustrating symptoms of Hay fever? It can get in the way of everyday tasks and affect a person's quality of life. A Hay fever sufferer will try just about anything to relieve their symptoms.
According to the Mayo Clinic Hay fever (also called allergic rhinitis)
" causes cold-like signs and symptoms, such as a runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion, sneezing and sinus pressure. But unlike a cold, hay feverisn't caused by a virus. "
For this reason it can be difficult to treat. Symptoms can often come as a surprise leading to sufferers keeping a close eye on the daily pollen count so that they can prepare for it.
There is one Hay fever hack that is currently doing the rounds. Sufferers are praising Vaseline for saving the day. According to them, the idea is to coat the inside of your nose (as high as possible) with a layer of Vaseline so that it can act as a barrier and trap for the pollen that triggers the Hay fever.
The HSE website seems to back it up too. They list this Vaseline hack as one of their things you can do "to ease your symptoms when the pollen count is high". They also recommend to
- shower and change your clothes after you've been outside to wash the pollen off
- keep windows and doors shut as much as possible
- Vacuum and dust regularly
They also recommend NOT doing the following things
- Keep flowers in your house
- Dry your clothes outside
- Smoke or be around smoke (it can worsen symptoms)
Will you be giving the Vaseline hack a go?
