When you are a busy family you will need to have your clothes organised as much as possible so you can walk out the door quickly in the morning.
When you have kids and are trying to get out the door as quick as you can, it can be so hard to dress properly. Unless you have clothes ready to go, you may end up leaving the house in a shirt that needs to be ironed and a pair of tracksuit bottoms.
Here are some tips on how to organise your wardrobe so you can dress quickly:
-
Declutter.
To start with, no one can get through a messy wardrobe so the best way to decide how to organise it is to give the stuff you don’t need to charity.
Often, we have loads of clothes in our wardrobe that we will never wear again yet, we don’t like giving them up either. Be ruthless and get 2020 off to a good start with a reduced wardrobe - one that is tidier and more organised. -
Get good hangers.
Buying expensive hangers may seem like a silly thing to do but you really need to have better quality ones to hang clothes on. This way your dresses, jeans or coats won’t fall onto the ground or end up scrunched up in a ball! If you have drawers in your wardrobe, then line them with boxes or storage compartments to pop your smaller clothes into them.
-
Sort them into categories.
Some people would suggest sorting your clothes into colours (and you can if you want to) but one of the simplest ways is by putting shirts together with trousers (work clothes) and leisure clothes (for other days). Then you’ll easily have the clothes at hand as needed without having to dig around.
-
Keep some items in the drawers.
There are items that are a better fit for drawers instead of wardrobes. While you may like to hang up most of your clothes, there are some items that are ideal for drawers including hoodies, tracksuits or t-shirts. Leave the items for the wardrobe that will crease easily and need to be neat for when you want to run out the door in the mornings.
-
Iron clothes.
It may seem silly but if you want to get dressed quickly, then you will need to have your clothes ironed and ready for action. This means having an ironing pile and getting through it before adding the newly ironed items to the wardrobe.
Try and keep to the categories so everything remains neat and tidy as well as taking the time to hang them properly as if you don’t, you’ll have to iron them again which is a waste of time. -
Have a space for dry cleaned clothes.
There are always those special items that need a space in your wardrobe like suits or dresses for occasions. Again, keeping these in your wardrobe in a good area will mean that when you want to wear them again, you’ll just have to unwrap the laundry bag and put them on. Without a nice wardrobe space, they may get damaged.
-
Keep working on it.
Once you have the wardrobe mastered, try not to fall into old habits and mess up the space again. If you do, take time to tidy it up and start again. Then you’ll always be ready for running out the door at a minutes notice.
