Us mums are great at taking care of other people, but when it comes to taking care of ourselves, we often feel like we simply don’t have the time.
Well, maybe summertime is the perfect time for a little me time? Here are some summer self-care ideas that will leave you walking on sunshine.
Bookends
Book clubs are a great way to make friends, discover new books and take time out from your daily routine. They often meet monthly and as well as being an evening out to look forward to every four weeks, you’ll also be forced to finish your assigned book. There are lots of distractions that normally get in the way of us finishing good stories, but if you have a deadline, you’re more likely to prioritise it. Now that’s one type of homework we can enjoy!
Make-Up, Don’t Break Up
Decluttering and organising the family home is definitely a chore, however, doing the same with your make-up and toiletries is much more enjoyable. Get rid of any products that are past their best, and see which shades are more suitable for summer; sheer lip and eye colours look better in the sunshine. Open any expensive products you’ve received as presents and treat yourself to a luxurious bath, or slather on a gorgeous new body moisturiser.
Music Man
"Peace and quiet" don’t go hand in hand with a busy family home, but maybe there’s another way for you to wind down that doesn’t require the kids to quieten down. It’s rare to listen to full albums nowadays as we’re more likely to choose a playlist on Spotify or stick on our favourite radio station. Why not find your favourite album, stick in your AirPods and listen to it from start to finish? You’ll immerse yourself much more in the music than if you’re listening to random tracks.
Nail It
Why do we love getting our nails done so much? Is it because it’s relaxing, it lifts our mood, it’s indulgent, or because it makes us feel more self-confident? Probably all of the above. So, if that’s the case, why not make it an essential part of your summer self-care routine. Even if you don’t make it to a salon, take the time to give yourself a manicure at home. We all know practice makes perfect so the more skilled you get, the less difference there’ll be between an at-home and salon version!
Put Your Feet Up
Fingers crossed when it’s sunny outside your kids will find something to occupy themselves with. Whether that’s playing on the climbing frame, making shapes in the sand pit or soaking each other in a water fight. Instead of hanging out the washing, take the opportunity to fix yourself an iced coffee, stick on a pair of sunnies, put your feet up and relax. You deserve it!
