Check your phone. How many photos and videos are currently in your gallery? A hundred? Two hundred? Go on, admit it – over a thousand!
Now, check how many of those feature your gorgeous kids. I would guess over half, possibly even three-quarters. Oh look, there’s your partner too, and some kid selfies, at that family day out when you went to visit that petting farm.
There’s the kids, looking so happy and hot-chocolate-facey with your other half gazing on adoringly. But... Where. Are. You?!
You were there, right? You booked the tickets and packed the picnic and arranged for everyone to be there, didn’t you? You were the creator of this beautiful family experience!
So why is there no photographic record of you being there?
No one takes more photos of the kids than a doting mammy, that’s for sure. But it’s time that you made sure that you feature in these memories too. If that means taking a selfie a day, we’d really recommend it. Here’s why taking selfies with your kids is so important.
Because you can
Imagine how jealous our own mams feel that they didn’t have the facility to capture as many parenting moments with us as we can? We are honoured to live in this age where we can take a photo of us with our kids at any time and even get the prints sent straight to the door if we like. So do it!
Because you are beautiful
It can be very hard to hear that, especially when you are exhausted from night feeds (and day feeds!) and feel like you have been dragged through a bush. We have all been there! But our kids do not see that – we are their mams and they think we are so beautiful, even when we don't. So why not honour that.
Because you will look back and smile
Looking back on photos is fantastic for reminding you how great you were in a particular period in your life. You might see tired smiles and baby puked-on shoulders but you will be SO proud of yourself for getting through it. Gift your future self the opportunity to reflect happily by taking selfies with your kids.
Because your kids will love it
As your kids get older, they will LOVE leafing through photo albums of themselves as babies, toddlers and beyond. If they get to see you there with them too, it makes things even more special for them. Do a bit of mammy-cataloguing for their sakes.
Because your hair needs a showreel!
The greatest thing about looking back on photos is your hairstyles through the ages. From scraped-off-the-face because I can’t deal, to cropping it to look more "like a grown up", to growing it again to seem more youthful as we age… Your hairstyle history will give you the greatest laughs in years to come.
