A must-see for all of the family this Christmas season, ‘The Grinch’ is a colourful and magical take on Dr. Seuss’ source material.
The makers of ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Sing’ have done it again, and created a masterpiece that your children are going to absolutely love. A second remake of the classic Dr. Seuss in the last 18 years, ‘The Grinch’ definitely offers a much more child-friendly approach to ruining Christmas for the residents of Whoville.
Whereas Jim Carrey’s ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ could certainly be seen as evil in parts of his story, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Grinch is more of a mopey old grump (i.e. a much safer approach to the character than we’ve seen before). And that’s okay – because the movie is a fun and fantastical ride for everyone involved. The movie is also bursting full of colour, which will leave you happy that this time of the year is once again upon us.
As well as Cumberbatch lending his voice to ‘The Grinch’, Rashida Jones (‘Inside Out’), Kennan Thompson (‘Saturday Night Live’), and Pharrell Williams all offer impressively engaging characters to the audience, with the latter acting as the light-hearted narrator of the Grinch’s story.
Fans of Carrey’s iteration may be a little disappointed with the 2018 version, considering it is much more geared towards a younger audience. The inclusion of Fred the reindeer however, and the very cute Max the dog of course, add a healthy dose of cuteness and humour that a live-action film could never portray. Your kids will want to see more of these characters, so prepare yourselves for next Christmas when the DVD gets released.
A must-see for all of the family this Christmas season, ‘The Grinch’ is a colourful and magical take on Dr. Seuss’ source material. Hopefully after seeing this, all of the family will be in a truly festive mood, counting down the days until you can watch the movie again this time next year when you crack out your festive DVD collection after October 31st.
