This article is part of our #FamilyFun30 Challenge, where every day we set a simple, accessible and fun task to enjoy with your family. Check out the full list of challenges here and get involved!
Here's what you need to get started:
- tissue box
- craft paint
- glue stick
- fun foam (or white card)
- marker/pen
- Things to decorate
- googly eyes
- pipe cleaner
- egg carton or foam balls for eyes
Optional, but fun:
- buttons
- stickers
- fun fur
- construction paper
- feathers
How to make easy monster tissue boxes:
-
Prepare your tissue box.
Firstly, remove any plastic from the opening of the tissue box and use craft paint to paint it the colour of your choice. Once dry, paint the inside of the box black.
-
Cut out the mouth of your monster.
Draw on a new shape on the tissue box opening - for example, a curved smile - and cut it out.
-
Cut out your monster's teeth.
Fun foam is effective here, but some good white card works too. Simply get a piece of white card or fun foam the width of the monster's mouth. With a marker, draw on the top teeth and bottom teeth. Cut both out, and flip them around so that the marker side faces in and the clean side faces out. Stick them to the inside of the tissue box using a glue stick.
-
Decorate the box.
Decorate the box using anything you like - stickers, foam, fur, etc. Have fun with it!
-
Make the eyes.
Eyes can be made from foam balls, pom poms, egg cartons or pipe cleaners. Once you've chosen your material, glue on some googly eyes and stick them to the top of the tissue box.
And that's it! Your very own tissue box monsters. If you're feeling creative, you can also give them legs using used toilet roll holders like so:
Happy crafting!
