When a little one is born we crave for them to have some independence. Almost wishing their little lives away. But, as they grow, we realise that teamwork is an interictal part of their development.
Teamwork teaches empathy and even increases learning capabilities. It is one of the most important skills your child will learn and carry with them throughout their life.
Here are some ways to help with their teamwork skills:
-
Extra-curricular activities.
A great way for children to learn is through their peers. Enrolling your little one in any after school activity that involves working as a team is a great way to show them the importance of teamwork.
-
Cheer on their peers.
An important lesson for your little one to learn is to support and congratulate a peer's success. Encourage your child to cheer on their friends and classmates. If their friend is playing sports or doing a dance rehearsal encourage them to support them.
-
Display unity at home.
Home is where your little one learns most. At any opportunity, encourage your little one to work with their siblings to get a task done. There will be disagreements and it won’t always run smoothly, but they will learn invaluable lessons from doing small tasks as a team. Try as much as possible to showcase teamwork with your partner - they are constantly watching and learning from their parents. If you show them what positive teamwork means and what it can achieve, they will know how to apply that to their situation too.
-
Tailor their screen time.
Let’s face it, most little ones have some form of screen time per week. Depending on your child’s age, find an appropriate movie or show that depicts positive teamwork. Children are absorbing everything, so where you can, find some positive examples of what you are trying to teach them.
